Bringing the Eurovision Home

On the 8th May 2004 James flew out to Istanbul, ready to represent his country in the Eurovision Song Contest. Naturally, the whole website wanted to show its support. So whilst 40 of the members packed their suitcases and got ready to join him on his Turkish travels, others got ready to bring the Eurovision here! And what better way to do that, than with a Eurovision party or two. There was so much to be done, a venue to be found, a big screen, decorations; there was even talk of a live link up with the BBC! At times it felt like it would never come together, but the end result was stunning. By 7pm on the 15th May 2004, The Cadogan Arms in Chelsea had turned into Eurovision Central, complete with flags, balloons, party poppersand of course Foxettes!!! The big screen rolled down into place, accompanied by a huge cheer, the Eurovision had come to Chelsea...let the party commence!! Every so often, as we watched the other entrants, a shout would go up. There they are! Someone had spotted the yellow daffodils, bobbing around in the audience and everyone gave them a cheer. Then the moment wed been waiting for arrived. It was the UKs turn to perform. The whole pub stopped to watch, as James appeared on the screen in front, smiling and looking like a million dollars. Everyone jumped to their feet, flags were held high and Im certain if someone had been looking through the other side of that big screen, theyd have struggled to tell where the audience in Turkey ended and the one in the UK began. Every smile at the camera, every stare down that lens was greeted with shouts of approval and Im sure all Foxettes, wherever they were, were thinking the exact same thing how very proud we are!!! As the results rolled in, it was clear the UK wouldnt win. But that didnt seem to matter any more. For James had already won. Hed won the hearts of the nation, hed won an army of new fans and hed won the battle between showmanship and talent. Hed needed no circus acts or flamboyant dancing. Hed gone on stage, just himself and his guitar, done his nation proud and kept his dignity intact. Even so, every point the UK received was greeted with cheers and applause, as everyone celebrated Jamess fabulous performance. As the winner was announced, the phone behind the bar rang and before we knew it, we were live to Lorraine Kelly and the nation on BBC3. How fabulous to get the opportunity to show our support and share our sentiments. What do you like about James shed asked? Wellhes a fabulous musician, a brilliant performer, a talented singer/ songwriter and hes gorgeous to boot and I have to say, Lorraine agreed! And so, with the evening at an end, our thoughts turned to tomorrow. How could we leave London without giving James a welcome to remember? The answer was simple, we couldnt, the Foxettes party would have a new venue by the morning London, Heathrow. There were flights arriving from Turkey all day and since we couldnt be sure which one James would be on, we got ready to greet them all, walking in convoy between terminals 1 and 3, looking out for the balloons, if ever we lost sight of each other. They didnt take much spotting I think we stood out amongst the crowd. Then finally, we heard the news wed been waiting for, James would be on the next flight in. Everyone in the terminal smiled and waved, some coming over to ask us how the Eurovision had gone and naturally we told them how fantastically hed performed. As the doors opened, the first passengers began to filter through. The backing singers, Paddy OConnell, a few of the returning Foxettes, all were greeted with a hearty welcome, but the biggest cheer went out to Terry Wogan, our Foxette greeting catching him by surprise, as he looked across and gave us the hugest of grins. Hes on his way! the other passengers shouted and sure enough they were right. James came through the doors and the Foxettes gave him a heros welcome. The cheers and rapturous applause echoed around the arrivals lounge, people waiting for their loved ones smiled and waved, but the hugest grin of all was the one on Jamess face. Making his way past the other passengers, he was greeted with kisses, hugs and messages of support, before finally being whisked away for a well-deserved rest. What a wonderful 24 hours wed all had. Wed shared the excitement, the nerves and the jubilation. Wed let the nation know just what we thought of James Fox and to top it all wed welcomed him back home. James thank you we wouldnt have missed it for the world! Caroline"
