James in the Academy

HE may have sang Don't Dream It's Over live on television, but for James Fox the journey to pop success has only just begun. The 29-year-old from Bargoed, South Wales was the sixth person to win a place in BBC1's Fame Academy house after wowing viewers with his rendition of the Crowded House classic. The session guitarist battled it out with the students in the television show in the hope of winning a record contract. On his final night in the Academy he sang Woman by John Lennon but after the votes were counted, it was Alex and Alistair who were saved by the public, leaving James to face the teachers' vote. Carolynne was saved, and James and Peter then turned to face the students. Perhaps the biggest surprise came when Alistair voted to save Peter rather than his Academy mate James. When Alex and Carolynne voted the same way, James' fate was sealed - it was time for him to pack up his hats and vests and leave The Academy.
